So, what is the difference between cleaning and disinfecting? To distinguish, cleaning removes visible grime, while disinfection removes most pathological microbes.  According to CDC (2020), cleaning refers to the removal of germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces. It does not kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.  Disinfection refers to using chemicals, to kill germs on surfaces.
